I’ve been looking for a beater watch for awhile for camping and outside work as well as field visits for work. Did not really want a G Shock as I think they’re just too big now, picked up this Seiko SKX007 diver from A***zon for $200 and am wondering why I didn’t get one sooner. It’s already running pretty good for a cheap automatic movement and it looks great.

Nice. I lost my second G-Shock just before Christmas. My wife and kids gifted me with a Samsung Gear S3 . Call me geeky, but this is my favorite watch face so far:

Funny thing is that I’ve never played Fallout.

As nice and rugged as this is, I still plan to get another G-Shock.

I still need a Seiko in my life. That one is quite nice, looks reminiscent of the Rolex Submariner.

Using a phone like a watch is like having an old timey pocket watch. You got to pull it out of your pocket, click on a button, look at the time, lick on the button again, and put it back in your pocket. A watch on your wrist just takes a quick glance.

Though lets be honest, watches, especially really nice mechanical ones isn’t about telling time, it’s about wearing a work of artistic and technical art on your wrist. Its one of a few ways men can wear jewelry/fashion.

I think I understand why watch wearers wear watches, but unless I’m in an exam condition I can’t really say I’d wear one.

My daily is a SNK809

Kinja'd!!!

It’s small enough that I can wear it everyday without screaming - ‘I’m a watch guy!’

I would like a pepsi skx009 next..

As the “watch guy” in my circle of friends the 007 is my go to answer when a newbie asks me what a good first “real” watch to pick up is.

It’s a piece of jewelry, also a nice piece of engineering if you think about what goes into a mechanical watch and how accurate they can be with little gears being powered by a spring.

Got this about 2 years back when I was in Osaka. It’s a 2012 model and they only had the display one left. It’s my daily “dresser” driver now.

I do agree with the new ones getting too big... that’s why I went hunting for this specific one.

Oh it’s certainly fascinating. I respect watch users, its a bit like people that bought the manual M5 in the US

I’m just too trashy to actually buy one and maintain it and clean it so I’d rather have my trusty phone :)

You can own a $60 Seiko automatic for 30 years without any need of maintenance or cleaning and it will work like new.

I was never a watch guy myself until I finally bought a cheap Seiko automatic and they fell in love with them.

I still have my phone :)

Cheaper and cooler on ebay. There are a couple of sellers who make modded Seioko divers.

I didn’t know licking the buttons on phones did anything! Interesting!

Excellent choice!

It’s my daily. I swap the NATO bands around when the mood strikes me, but always wear my 007. My beater is a Timex Weekender that has been through lots.

Mine looses about 3min/week, but it’s not enough of an issue that I’ve worried about addressing it.

Enjoy yours!

Nice! Here’s mine:

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve had it maybe 5+ years now? I did drop it on a concrete floor (by accident), and the window around the date popped out. I took it one place to be repaired, but when I got it back, it was even worse. Took it to a second place, and ever since then, it’s run a little bit slower than what it should.
